Bart de Groot


Dutch, BSc, CSM – Bart (1982) graduated as Bachelor of Science, "Applied Computer Science" in 2005 at Katholieke Hogeschool Kempen (Geel, Belgium) with a focus on software engineering. He gained experience developing and testing database solutions for non-profit organizations before coming to Avia-GIS. There he has had to apply a wide range of IT skills to maintain and provide support for the IT resources, network and various servers, such as file and directory servers, on Windows, OS X and Linux, as well as develop a diverse range of software. This includes the development of GIS based applications running on the ESRI ArcGIS platform, or incorporating the Dotspatial engine, development of satellite imagery processing software and designing proprietary file formats incorporating public key encryption, mobile applications for PDAs and smartphones, server-client solutions, database design and development for Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Postgresql, mySQL and SQlite, web services, custom static and dynamic websites using PHP, configuration and development for CMS based websites such as Drupal and Moodle. Depending on the requirements for each software solution he has used one of several frameworks, including Microsoft .NET C#, Xojo, and Java.

In 2012 his responsibilities were extended as CIO to not just develop software but also oversee software projects, developed by multiple developers in-house, and with international external partners and sub-contractors.

In 2015 he was awarded the designation Certified ScrumMaster® by the Scrum Alliance.

The focus of Avia-GIS is to provide high quality cutting edge solutions for a range of projects and as such he has been required to keep up with developments of the gamut of IT solutions. He is always looking for the latest developments in technology to both provide the latest best solution as well as the best fit for each particular problem.
