Contribution to the Livestock Development Study "The Gambia" Livestock GIS
This report summarises the findings of the GIS livestock study and comprises two parts: (i.) a hard copy report with a series of print out maps and (ii.) a CD-Rom including all data and, in order to guarantee maximum accessibility to the various data sets, three versions of a Geographical Information System:
A first ArcExplorer version (software provided on CD) for users with no access to Arc View.
A second version for ArcView users (vector data only).
A third, advanced, version for users with ArcView and Spatial Analyst (vector and raster data).
More details about how to proceed with installing the CD-Rom are given in Annex at the end of this document.
The aim of this study was to collect, display, analyse and make available all existing key geographical information on people, crops and their livestock in The Gambia. It should be considered as a basis to further build on by adding data to which the study team had no access and new data when available.
The following topics are discussed: (a) People, (b) Crops, (c) Ruminants, (d) Animal Traction, (e) Mixed Farming, (f) Animal Production: e.g. Milk, (g) Information Systems: e.g. (i.) Animal Swine Fever and (ii.) Personnel and Infrastructures, (h) Mapping Loumo�s (markets and market accessibility).
